A Group of young people for St Stephen’s went out into the
community as part of our church service on Sunday morning. They went to ask
people in the street what they thought the church’s role in the community
should be. As they tried to approach people they started to become disappointed
as people ignored them. The same group of young people have talked in the past
about how people cross the street to the other side when they see them coming.
They think it is because they are young, some of them think it is because they
are black, and because of the way they dress.
These young people in many ways of Samaritans – rejected
without consideration and yet on many occasions they would respond like the
Good Samaritan that Jesus spoke of.
How can they have respect for adults in the community when
they try positive initiatives and are ignored and insulted. This injustice
angers me.
