Uncle Ben

Congratulations to Jez (my brother) and Kristin. Noah Thomas Bell was born last night making me Uncle Ben! They live in ontario Canada so it will be a while before we meet him but we're really looking forward to hearing how he's getting on.

The perspective of injustice

The scientist Stephen Jay Gould said

“I am somehow less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.”

Today, after hearing that a young person I’m close to has been stabbed, I  thought

“I am somehow less interested in the status of achievement, celebrity and wealth than in the absolute certainty that young people of significant talent live and die on a local Estate.“

Archbishop John goes a little bit street

The Archbishop of York wore a hoodie as he urged people not to judge teenagers by their choice of fashion.

Dr John Sentamu told a conference on youth work in the Church: "Ninety-nine per cent of those who wear hoodies are law-abiding citizens."

He said: "Jesus said, 'Unless you become like a little child you cannot enter the Kingdom of Heaven'.

We have a lot to learn from young people as well as much responsibility for them."
